PGCE Deadlines November 19, 2009

If you are applying for a PGCE for next year don’t forget deadlines are approaching fast.
Primary teaching courses – the deadline for applications is 1st December. Applications must be received by this date to guarantee that you are considered by your first choice training provider. After this date training providers can choose to stop receiving applications for primary courses.
Secondary teaching courses – The December 1st deadline does not apply to secondary teaching applications. Applications can be received any time between September 2009 and June 2010. However, popular training providers often fill up their places early in the application cycle. To ensure you are considered by your first choice, get your application in as soon as possible!
Don’t forget, your application takes time and needs to be of the highest standard to increase your chances of being offered an interview. You need to allow plenty of time to work on your application and in particular your personal statement. This requires careful consideration and thought so don’t leave it until the last minute! Make sure referees are given plenty of notice for writing references in order to ensure your application isn’t delayed.
No matter how good you think your application is, it is always a good idea to have it checked over. Our careers advisers can go over your form with you, making suggestions and recommending any changes that they think will improve your application.

This teaching taster course has been designed to enable men who are interested in a career in primary teaching to find out more about the profession. Male teachers are currently under represented in primary schools, with as low as one in ten primary school teachers being male. The TDA has funded this course to encourage more men into the primary teaching profession.
Who are Teaching Taster Courses for?
Running in Herefordshire for three days in October, this free course will develop your knowledge of teaching and education, allow you to spend a day in school to talk to teachers directly about their work, and identify your next steps towards becoming a teacher.
If you’re close to deciding whether to apply for teacher training, a taster course could be for you.
What’s involved?
The Taster Course is a three day programme taking place on 12th, 13th and 14th October. The course is designed to help you find out more about what it’s like working in a school and what’s involved in becoming a teacher.
Day One is an introductory day, where you’ll be given an overview of teaching, learning and assessment, the school curriculum and the roles and responsibilities of the people who work in schools. You’ll spend day two in a school, observing lessons and talking to teachers. On the final day, you’ll be able to review your school visit and discuss your next steps with our teacher training staff.
