Supported by the BBC, and attended by many other organisations in the fields of TV, Film, Newspapers, PR, Writing, Theatre, Events Management, Special Effects/Props, DJs, Sound and radio, the day promises to be action packed, with a chance to meet industry experts.
Around 28 professionally erected exhibition stands will be within our William Aston Hall and a comprehensive programme of talks will take place during the day too. The BBC in particular are playing a very active part in the day and will be giving talks by guest presenters, and interactive workshops too. In addition to this, they will be talking about their trainee programmes including Journalism and Design – and their Extend Programme - the BBC’s work placement scheme specifically for disabled people.
This event is open to anyone interested in pursuing a career a career in Radio, TV, Film, the press and other related industries.

The BBC Design Trainee Scheme is one of the best opportunities to begin a creative career in media.
Whether you are interested in set, costume, make-up, or interactive design, the scheme offers placements across the broadcast industry over a 12 month period. During your time on the scheme, you’ll gain practical experience to help you build on your existing knowledge and skills. You’ll be working alongside experienced designers and design teams, mentored by senior designers.
You will work on a variety of productions or design projects, broadening your experience of working practices, programme genres or design platforms. You’ll also develop a network of professional contacts to help establish your career and gain freelance employment in the future.
The BBC has led design training for many years and continues to be committed to providing trainee opportunities to develop the next generation of creative talent.

The BBC Production Trainee Scheme aims to attract exceptional individuals with creative ideas and a keen interest in working in production.
With 18 months of face-to-face training, online learning and placements on real programmes and projects in TV, radio and new media, it offers a career path for creative people. You’ll be mentored by a BBC senior manager along the way. By the end of it, you’ll be able to tell a good story and have the skills you need to turn ideas into reality.

Blue Peter is the world’s longest continually running television programme for children – it will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2008! It is one of the best known programmes in the UK and remains one of the most popular children’s programmes. Blue Peter is a live magazine programme for 6 – 12 year olds with a highly popular website, annual and a yearly Prom with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. The BBC also produce the Blue Peter Book Awards.
About the Placement
You will have the opportunity to work alongside the production team and get an overview of different roles within the department. Typical activities will include:
Working on the Blue Peter website
Learning about how a studio operates
Working on future programme ideas
Interacting and connecting with the audience
Assisting the team with location filming
Criteria
The BBC is looking for applicants with an interest in Children’s TV. You’ll be joining a very busy team, so you’ll need to be willing to use your initiative and have a helpful and proactive attitude.
An interest in the interactive and digital future of television would be useful. The BBC would expect applicants to have the ability to use a range of software packages including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
